Amy Rankin, DVM, MS, DACVO

Dr. Amy J. Rankin is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center. She received her DVM degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She completed a rotating internship in small an mal medicine and surgery at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Rankin spent 3 years in small animal private practice in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Washington and Idaho. She completed an ocular pathology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, jointly through its medical and veterinary schools. She completed her residency training and master’s degree at Purdue University and spent time in a private specialty practice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was on the faculty of Kansas State University prior to joining the University of Minnesota. Dr. Rankin enjoys advancing the field of veterinary ophthalmology through training of students, interns and residents and research.

Dr. Rankin’s research interests lie at the intersection of pharmacokinetics and veterinary ophthalmology. She is particularly interested in understanding how species-specific anatomical and physiological differences influence the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination of ophthalmic medications.
