Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease (aCIRD):
There are many reports of canine respiratory infections across the U.S. At this time there is limited information and multiple causes of respiratory disease in dogs. With this increased media attention, clients and staff may have questions about prevention and control of infections.
Key reminders to prevent respiratory infections among dogs:
Try to avoid dog congregation areas, such as doggy day-cares, if your dog is at risk for serious infections (i.e. elderly, very young, pregnant, immunocompromised, underlying heart or respiratory tract disease and Brachycephalic breeds).
Consider vaccination for Bordetella bronchiseptica/parainfluenza virus and if available Canine influenza vaccine.
