Summary

Wendy Baltzer is a Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, having recently joined the faculty in 2025. She graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and completed a PhD in veterinary
physiology and a residency in small animal surgery at Texas A&M University in 2005. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, and European College of Veterinary Surgeons and is a registered specialist in the United States, New Zealand and Australia. She was an Associate Professor at Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine until 2016, a Professor at Massey University School of Veterinary Science in New Zealand until 2020, and an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney until 2025. Her interests include orthopedic injuries, trauma, hip and other joint replacements, sport and working dog injuries, greater momentum and rehabilitation. She lives with her husband, two children, and yellow Lab in Minneapolis.

Research

Research interests

Wendy’s research interests include oxidant injury in sporting dogs, bone and wound healing using omental grafting, tendon and ligament injury, osteoarthritis, lumbosacral disease and geriatric rehabilitation. She is currently working on research involving osteoarthritis, lower back pain in dogs, bandaging techniques and omentum grafting for tissue healing.
